newsEuropeana v1.0 review was successfully completed. Orphan works, copyright and the public domain are key priorities for future work19 Jul 2010Last month the Europeana v1.0 project successfully passed its Mid-term Review. The reviewers positively commented on the substantial achievements attained in such a short time. Europeana is strongly supported by the European Commission as well as by the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament. Since last year EC's consultation 'Europeana - Next Steps', Europeana has achieved high recognition and approval among key stakeholders and funders. Moreover, key topics such as orphan works, copyright and the public domain have risen up the political agenda. The 'Europeana - Next Steps' report, adopted by the European Parliament as a Resolution in May 2010, stresses the importance of tackling the issues of European orphan works, copyright and public domain resources which are crucial to the success of Europeana. The future Europeana plenary conference 'Europeana Open Culture 2010' will take place on 14-15 October, in Amsterdam and will discuss priorities and actions for the second half of the project.
